The purpose of the Flash Tank is to recover the Low Pressure Flash Steam from the high pressure condensate return from the plant. Flash Steam is generated from the high pressure condensate when its pressure is reduced.

The amount of flash steam generated depends on the difference in pressure and the flow rate of condensate. This low pressure flash steam can be used for low pressure heating applications.
